April 25, 2026 – HTU Opening Day Pancake Breakfast, at Lumberjack Park in Wolverine, 8:00am until maybe noon. We have a lot of fun with this and have been doing it for many years. Grab a friend or two – especially if they are not members! Kick off the new season with a steaming hot breakfast!

May

May 30, 2026 – HTU Macroinvertebrate Survey, Black River. Healthy rivers have a healthy bug population. We monitor two sites on the Black to detect trend changes. Also of interest is an endangered species – Hungerford’s Crawling Water Beetle. We have found some evidence in previous years. This event gains you a lot of knowledge about what trout eat and where to find it. It’s hands-on learning and no experience necessary. Come with a friend and make a morning of it. Dress for the weather and bring your waders. Finish up with a grilled lunch streamside. Be at the Tin Shanty Road bridge by 9:00. Lunch is usually at noon.

May 18 – 22, 2026 – River temperature logger installation. Specific days TBD. We install – and later remove – temperature logging devices which provide valuable data for long term trend analysis. Plus, it is a valuable learning experience for you. Use the “Contact Us” tab on the HTU website if you are interested in helping out.

Fun for the whole family. Check here for additional information: http://www.otsegocd.org/art-in-the-garden-festival.html

August 3, 2026 – Veterans Fly Fishing Workshop at the Greenwood Foundation. Date still to be determined.

August 8, 2026 – A combination summer party and a Board Meeting. Held at Mark Jarvie’s house on beautiful Long Lake. Third Annual! The Board meeting starts at 11:00, grill fires up at 1:00. Look for details on our Facebook page, our website, or your emails. Make the trip! Bring a friend or two…everyone welcome, and not online!

August 22, 2026 – Cedar tree maintenance. Come out and help the growth of “our” cedars on the Upper Manistee, Deward Tract. Expect some tromping through underbrush but no heavy lifting and all on land. This is a beautiful location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/rex5mAoe7djrEjDo7

September

September 12, 2026 – Au Sable River Cleanup. Held every fall on the Saturday following Labor Day. We will again be getting a crew together – let us know if you would like to join us by talking to a Board member or using the “Contact Us” feature on our website.

September 14-18, 2026 – Specific day(s) TBD. River temperature logger removal. Gather in the loggers so their data can be downloaded. If you weren’t able to make the spring installation, removing them is also a valuable learning experience. Use the “Contact Us” tab on the HTU website if you are interested in helping out.

September 19, 2026 – HTU Macroinvertebrate Survey, Black River. We have done this twice a summer forever. Once in the spring, once in the fall. These surveys generate great “data” (ie bug counts and breadth of species found) and are very helpful for analyzing long term trend changes. This event gains you a lot of knowledge about what trout eat and where to find it, including seasonal changes. You will be amazed. It’s hands-on learning and no experience necessary. Come with a friend and make a morning of it. Dress for the weather and bring your waders. Finish up with a grilled lunch streamside. Be at the Tin Shanty Road bridge by 9:00. Lunch at noon.
